December 2017

Our UK Power Networks commitment continues to go from strength to strength. Operating across the East, South East and London, we have continued to carry out a range of civil engineering network projects from low voltage right through to 132kV, and throughout 2017 this area of business has increased by over 20%.

Innovation is at the core of what we do and who we are, helping to continually improve our quality of service. Following its development in 2016 and 2017 we introduced the second generation of vehicle monitoring systems. Our systems use the latest in cutting edge geo-satellite and gyroscopic technology to continuously monitor and track the performance of our drivers. By ranking each one according to the data collated – based on cornering, braking, speeding and idling – we can see which drivers may benefit from further training and reward those who have excelled. This all leads to increased efficiency, reduced emissions, better behaviour, enhanced security and of course, increased safety.

We have ensured that our management systems have kept pace with the standard changes to ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008, as introduced in 2017. Having carried out a thorough readiness review in the summer, the BSI assessed our revisions and upgrades and duly gave us a clean bill of health in the autumn.

The safety of our workforce continues to be our number one priority and in November we were proud to record 500 consecutive accident free days. Our achievement of being awarded the RoSPA President’s Award in 2017 gave us further pride in the commitment we have to a culture of zero harm throughout our business. With some notable developments in our training plan, such as the introduction of an approved DNO Excavating Safely accreditation which can be delivered in house, LPC set the standard for a safe and competent workforce.
